As state officials in Michigan review a proposed Tea Party ’s petition to appear on the November ballot, evidence is mounting that the party is a front for Democratic supporters hoping to rescue embattled Democrats this fall. Earlier this week, the party submitted the names of 23 candidates it wants to place on ballots across the state this fall. Though several are for statewide offices, most are running in districts where Republicans are threatening incumbent Democrats. The Detroit Free Press reports today that a local Democratic party official had a role in helping some of…
-By Warner Todd Huston Back in May I posted a report on what seemed to be a fake tea party group circulating petitions in the state of Michigan to get themselves recognized as an official political party. The group circulating the petition, Progressive Campaigns, Inc., had long-time connections to the Michigan Democrat Party and at that time no one in the various Michigan tea party groups had any knowledge of this new so-called Tea Party petition effort. Now the Detroit Free Press is reporting that a…
A Charlottesville, Va., resident who stood with President Obama would likely not have been asked to participate in a Rose Garden speech on unemployment if the White House had known she was convicted of prescription drug fraud charges in April 2009, Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said Thursday.

What would your reaction be if President George W. Bush, his father, or any president of the last 100 years had referred to African-Americans as a “mongrel people?” You’d be shocked at the tone-deafness, right? Maybe outraged, determined to vote for his next opponent, maybe even calling for his resignation? How about if President Obama said it? President Obama calls African-Americans a ‘mongrel people’ President Obama waded into the national race debate in an unlikely setting and with an unusual choice of words: telling daytime talk show hosts that African-Americans are “sort of a mongrel people.” The president appeared on ABC’s morning talk show “The View” Thursday, where he…
and could plausibly win it. Or so the polls suggest. PPP last week and Rasmussen today both have her within the margin of error. After a rough start, she’s tied with Reid and appears willing to spend money now ($500,000 on TV for the last two weeks of July) to keep it up. And, as Elizabeth Crum on our new Battle ‘10 blog, she’s beefed up her press shop. As in she has one. Meanwhile, Harry Reid must be nervous, as he works to make himself more likable at home. Jim Geraghty, meanwhile, offers
The details are still to come but it looks like Judge Susan Bolton will rule on parts of the law instead of rejecting it in it’s entirety. ( ABC News ) The U.S. Justice Department had asked Federal Judge Susan Bolton to issue an injunction against the law, known as SB 1070, during a hearing last week. Attorneys representing Arizona and Gov. Jan Brewer asked that the entire case be dismissed. Bolton did not indicate when she will issue her decision, but did say that she could rule on parts of the law instead of rejecting or affirming it in its entirety. A group of civil rights and immigrant advocacy organizations have …
Associated Press Writers : PHOENIX (AP) — A judge has blocked the most controversial sections of Arizona’s new immigration law from taking effect Thursday, handing a major legal victory to opponents of the crackdown. The law will still take effect Thursday, but without many of the provisions that angered opponents — including sections that required officers to check a person’s immigration status while enforcing other laws. The judge also put on hold a part of the law that required immigrants to carry their papers at all times, and made …

A mysterious “tea party” is causing a stir in Michigan politics this summer. It doesn’t sound like the conservative-backed tea party you’ve heard so much about this year, and better known elements of the movement are disavowing it. To hear many political watchers in Michigan tell it, the new Michigan Tea Party — which has submitted 60,000 signatures to the state in an attempt to get on the ballot, mostly in races where Democrats are facing tough Republican…

A mysterious “tea party” is causing a stir in Michigan politics this summer. It doesn’t sound like the conservative-backed tea party you’ve heard so much about this year, and better known elements of the movement are disavowing it. To hear many political watchers in Michigan tell it, the new Michigan Tea Party — which has submitted 60,000 signatures to the state in an attempt to get on the ballot, mostly in races where Democrats are facing tough Republican opposition — is nothing but a Democrat-hatched plot to siphon votes from the right and help Dem candidates win…
