Well, the center’s organizers are finally opening an exhibit in the space. So, what’s the Sharia-infused project in question, you ask? A photography exhibit, featuring portraits of children from around the world living in New York City. “We live in a world with far too much fear and misunderstanding,” the exhibit’s release reads…

DOJ Investigating Mosque Controversy In Georgia

A Justice Department spokeswoman confirms to TPM that the Civil Rights Division has an ongoing investigation into whether a town council in Gwinnett County, Ga., denied a mosque a land use permit because of its religion. As first reported by WSBTV, the Lilburn City Council has voted several times to deny the Dar-e Abbas Shia Islamic Center’s rezoning and special use permit requests, which would allow the mosque to move to a larger property and build a cemetery. Doug Dillard, who is representing the mosque in its own federal civil lawsuit, told the Gwinnett Daily Post that the denial was a “violation of first, fourth and 14th Amendments of the United States Constitution.” …

Another Park51 Imam Resigns

The ongoing drama associated with the mosque near Ground Zero continues. Sheik Abdallah Adhami, who appeared to have been appointed to replace Feisal Abdul Rauf (who continues to be on the Park51 board) as chief imam on the mosque near Ground Zero project, resigned Friday. While Adhami said in a statement that his resignation had been prompted by his desire “to devote my time to the completion of my book which assists English readers in understanding and facilitating the language of the Quran,” it also comes after the New York Post dug up some choice quotes from past lectures delivered by Adhami. Among those quotes was one that suggested …

“Ground Zero mosque” opponents launch boycott of Justin Bieber after falling for online satire in which “Bieber” comes out in favor of the mosque in an “interview” that reads in part: Bieber went on to say that Muslims are “super cool,” Christians are “lame-o-rama,” and that the mosque will help “start a dialogue” with all religions about which Justin Bieber song is the most awesome. Could have fooled anyone …

Judge Rules TN Mosque Construction Can Continue

Judge Rules TN Mosque Construction Can Continue

A chancery court judge ruled today that the construction of a mosque in middle Tennessee can continue. The judge denied a request for a restraining order. Three local residents had accused Rutherford County of breaking open meeting laws when it approved construction of the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro. Their lawyers — funded, in part, by an anti-Islam Christian Zionist group — quickly made the suit about Islam, however. They claimed that Islam is not a religion , prompting the Justice Department to file a brief noting that the federal government has recognized Islam as a religion…
