Media lapdog of the day: Purple Heart, Bronze Star recipient’s story sure is a lot like Obama’s

**Written by Doug Powers During the State of the Union address, Army Ranger Cory Remsburg received the longest ovation of evening, and deservedly so : I first met Cory Remsburg, a proud Army Ranger, at Omaha Beach on the 65th anniversary of D-Day. Along with some of his fellow Rangers, he walked me through the program – a strong, impressive young man, with an easy manner, sharp as a tack. We joked around, and took pictures, and I told him to stay in touch. A few months later, on his tenth deployment, Cory was nearly killed by a massive roadside bomb in Afghanistan. His comrades found him in…

Michelle Obama: Can you spare at least $10 to help protect Obamacare?

Michelle Obama: Can you spare at least $10 to help protect Obamacare?

**Written by Doug Powers The Dems sent out a fundraising letter yesterday. In it, Michelle Obama asked for at least $10 to “help protect Obamacare.” This is like raising money to protect icebergs from ships: Earlier this month, because of what you did, it became illegal for insurance companies to discriminate against the up to 129 million Americans living with pre-existing conditions. Young Americans are able to stay on their parents’ health care plans as they get on their feet, and we can now know that our insurance companies won’t put lifetime caps on our coverage. You should be so proud of that. That happened because…

The latest news, via TOLO News : The US government has condemned an ordered release of the first wave of 88 prisoners from Bagram prison, saying that more than 40 per cent of the prisoners who are set to go were involved in direct attacks against the US and Afghan forces. The Afghan Review Board (ARB), led by Abdul Shakoor Dadras, has ordered the release of the first 37 of 88 from Bagram, which the US military categorised them as “dangerous”. The US forces in Afghanistan has condemned the ordered release, saying 17 of the 37 released prisoners are linked to the production of IEDs and killing 11 Afghan forces. “This extra-judicial release of detainees is a major step backward in further developing the…

Granholm vs. Granholm: Super PACs apparently no longer a threat to our ‘democracy’

**Written by Doug Powers In 2012, former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm blasted the Supreme Court’s decision on the “Citizens United” case: My experiences all took place before Citizens United. I can’t even imagine how much worse the pressures are now. That case has corrupted our political system, so our politics is no longer about doing the will of the people, it’s about raising the money from some of the people. There just isn’t time to do anything else. You can see why so many good men and women are no longer willing to serve in elected office. This isn’t a partisan issue — this is…

Jesse Jackson’s dalliance with accuracy

Jesse Jackson’s dalliance with accuracy

**Written by Doug Powers Jesse Jackson published a tweet Saturday morning that was quickly deleted and replaced , but I wish it hadn’t been because the original version was much more spot-on: The country doesn’t need any more help with that, but thanks anyway. **Written by Doug Powers Twitter @ThePowersThatBe

If you like your provolone, you can keep your provolone: Get ready for ‘Big Block of Cheese Day’ at the White House

**Written by Doug Powers Finally we’re getting somewhere. They’re still going to lie to us, but at least we’ll get a snack out of the deal. Wait, no we won’t. It’s just “virtual” cheese : The White House will host a virtual “Big Block of Cheese Day” later this month in a nod to historical tradition — and the popular West Wing television show. In the show, White House staffers were required on one day a year to meet with citizens and interest groups who normally…

Chuck Schumer must not have heard last year’s news; Says IRS needs to curtail Tea Party groups

**Written by Doug Powers Count Chuck Schumer among those who aren’t even pretending that we have a Constitution anymore, though it doesn’t seem he’s been paying very close attention to the news: Sen. Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) proposed using the Internal Revenue Service to curtail Tea Party group funding during a speech on how to “exploit” and “weaken” the movement at the Center…

Obama on Roe v. Wade anniversary: Everyone deserves same freedom and opportunities to fulfill their dreams

**Written by Doug Powers Try and get through this without your jaw dropping (emphasis added): Statement by the President on Roe v. Wade Anniversary Today, as we reflect on the 41st anniversary of the Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade, we recommit ourselves to the decision’s guiding principle: that every woman should be able to make her own choices about her body and her health. We …

Ouch! Mark Levin reacts to Obama saying football’s too dangerous for his imaginary son

**Written by Doug Powers In an interview with The New Yorker, President Obama once again invoked his imaginary son, saying he wouldn’t let nonexistent Barack Jr. play professional football (the Tour de France would also be off the table ). Mark Levin responds (transcript via Right Scoop — audio also at the link): So he wouldn’t let his son play football – this pretend son that he has. It’s like Jimmy Stewart with the pretend rabbit. Well let me tell you something Mr. President. I wouldn’t let my son be an ambassador under you. I’d much rather …

Sweatin’ to the Train Wreck: Maybe Richard Simmons can get those young people to sign up for Obamacare

Sweatin’ to the Train Wreck: Maybe Richard Simmons can get those young people to sign up for Obamacare

**Written by Doug Powers The Obama administration is desperate to boost the number of 18 to 34-year-olds signing up for Obamacare plans. Enter Richard Simmons — or, as that demographic refers to him: “WHO?” Behold our tax dollars at work (video via Newsbusters ): I feel like “getting covered” already — by protective, reality-deflecting blanket of denial. The above video was part of a “Get Covered” event — an over six-hour promotion for Obamacare, not to mention tricyclic antidepressants (full video here ). Above, a still shot from the latest Obamacare promotional video, “Sweatin’ to the Oh My God Please Tell Me My Tax Dollars Didn’t Pay for This Sh*t” **Written by…
