The Delaware conundrum

The Delaware conundrum

The stakes are high in the Delaware Senate race to serve out Joe Biden’s term where the victor will be eligible to serve upon election and thus will participate in the lame duck session. The choice for Republican voters, between Rep. Mike Castle and insurgent candidate Christie O’Donnell, presents a conundrum for conservatives. Castle is an immensely popular figure in Delaware. In 2008, when Barack Obama carried the state by a margin of 62-37, Castle defeated his Democratic opponent by a margin of 61-38, in a state-wide race (Delaware has just one seat in the House). Meanwhile, O’Donnell was losing to Joe Biden by a margin of 65-35. Castle’s popularity in Delaware probably rivals that…

The View Puts Obama In a Snooki Situation

President Obama went on ‘The View’ today and was asked some very difficult questions. For example, Joy Behar asked “Should Snooki run as mayor of Wasilla?” His response to the question, aimed to take a jab at Sarah Palin, was to say he did not know who Snooki was. The video here proves the President was not completely truthful. At the White House Correspondents Association…

At the White House Correspondents Association dinner on May 1, Obama joked about Snooki and her MTV reality show Jersey Shore his health-care bill: Tonight, in the interest of transparency, I would like to share a couple. Let’s see. This provision is…

Dale’s Observations For 2010-07-28

The Fed’s Beige Book report on economic activity disappoints investors, economists. http://bit.ly/a3he8L # RecoverySummer # And yes, I said VAT. A national sales tax like the Fair Tax is a non-starter. No high rate sales tax has ever worked, anywhere in the world. # The Chicago boys and Bruce Bartlett-finally!-have accepted my long-held position of scrapping the income tax…

Lawmakers Must Swear Off Activist Lame-Duck Congress — By: NRO Staff

On November 2, millions of Americans will head to the polls to either endorse or put a stop to the Obama-Pelosi-Reid agenda. Should the Democrats suffer a defeat, as many polls suggest could happen, the expectation is that the governing philosophy that brought America the stimulus and health-care overhaul will no longer determine policy in Washington for at least the next two years. But is this a…

But is this a safe assumption? America, meet the lame-duck session of Congress. In the wake of the November election, the Democratic majorities of 2008 will be frozen in place until a new Congress is sworn in at the beginning of 2011. It appears likely that scores of defeated Democrats will head back to …

Massachusetts, the Electoral College, and the Lessons of History — By: NRO Staff

Massachusetts is one gubernatorial signature away from thumbing its nose at the Electoral College — to say nothing of Article V of the Constitution. Its state Senate has joined the House in giving final approval to the ill-advised National Popular Vote plan. The measure is now headed to Gov. Deval Patrick’s desk. The governor’s spokeswoman today noted Patrick’s support for the…

MSNBC Promotes Findings of Roosevelt Institute Liberals Pushing ‘New Family Strategy’

During live news coverage this afternoon, MSNBC’s Chris Jansing demonstrated her apparent ignorance of the statistical maxim “correlation does not imply causation.” Interviewing the authors of Red Families v. Blue Families , the daytime anchor gleefully reported the finding that states that voted Republican in the 2008 presidential election have higher rates of divorce, teen pregnancy, and unwed parenthood than states that voted for Barack Obama. “You’ve heard the term a lot – ‘family values’ – but are they actually breaking up families?” the daytime anchor inquired enthusiastically. “According to one book, the so-called liberal blue states actually have more stable family units than culturally conservative red states.” Presenting the findings as a nonpartisan analysis…

The Department of Education has named eighteen finalists in the competition for the second round of ‘Race to the Top’ funding: The finalists are Arizona, California, Colorado, the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and South Carolina. Winners will be announced in September, and federal officials say they expect 10 to 15 of the finalists to receive financing. I lean more on the “abolish the DoE” side of things
