Jones Back in the Saddle — By: Jonah Goldberg

From the London Telegraph , via Threedonia: Prof Jones lost his job as head of the Climatic Research Unit at the UEA after personal emails he sent appeared on the internet. The emails referred to a ‘trick’ used to interpret data and the death of a leading climate change sceptic as “cheering news.” Sceptics claimed the stolen emails showed Prof Jones and his colleagues were willing to manipulate key data to exaggerate the rise in global temperatures. The scandal, that became known as ‘climategate’, caused repercussions around the world as it was used by those …

Citing the False Claims Act, which “prohibits certain types of activity generally involving claims for payment of money or receipt of property involving the federal government,” Inhofe, who is the ranking member of the Environmental and Public Works Committee, wants Mann investigated for his use of $500,000 in stimulus funds allotted for climate research. Inhofe suspects that any government funds Mann may have used in conjunction with the IPCC and the Climatic Research Unit would be a violation of the False Claims Act. . . .

Monbiot: Heads Must Roll at CRU

Monbiot: Heads Must Roll at CRU

The Guardian ’s George Monbiot is again calling for resignations at the University of East Anglia’s Climate Research Unit. This is a tough time for climate science. The Guardian’s new revelations about the hacked emails from the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) at the University of East Anglia might help to explain the university’s utter failure to confront its critics. They could also explain why the head of the unit, Phil Jones , blocked freedom of information requests and proposed that material subject to those requests be deleted. . . . The vast body of climate science still shows that manmade climate change is real and that it presents a massive challenge to human survival. But those of us who seek to explain its implications and call for action must demand the highest possible standards from the people whose work we promote, and condemn any failures to release data or admit and rectify mistakes.

ClimateGate scandal widens

ClimateGate scandal widens

James Delingpole reports on explosive new developments in the ClimateGate scandal: Climategate just got much, much bigger. And all thanks to the Russians who, with perfect timing, dropped this bombshell just as the world’s leaders are gathering in Copenhagen to discuss ways of carbon-taxing us all back to the dark ages. Feast your eyes on this news release from Ria Novosti agency, posted on Icecap . (Hat Tip: Richard North ) A discussion of the November 2009 Climatic Research Unit e-mail hacking incident, referred to by some sources as “Climategate,” continues against the backdrop of the abortive UN Climate Conference in Copenhagen (COP15) discussing alternative agreements to replace the 1997 Kyoto Protocol that aimed to combat global warming. The incident involved an e-mail server used by the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) at the University of East Anglia (UEA) in Norwich, East England. Unknown persons stole and anonymously disseminated thousands of e-mails and other documents dealing with the global-warming issue made over the course of 13 years. Controversy arose after various allegations were made including that climate scientists colluded to withhold scientific evidence and manipulated data to make the case for global warming appear stronger than it is.
