Obama’s Secular Christmas Message: Cookies, Basketball and ‘Holiday’ Traditions

Here is the heart of President Obama's official Christmas message : “This is a season for millions of Americans to be together with family, to continue long-held holiday traditions, and to show our gratitude to those we love. And along the way, some of us might even watch a little basketball or eat some Christmas cookies, too.” Ah yes, cookies and basketball

The Welfare Queen: Reagan Vindicated Again

The Welfare Queen: Reagan Vindicated Again

(Steven Hayward) Few things got—and still get—under the skin of liberals more than Ronald Reagan’s famous use of the term “welfare queen” in his 1976 campaign (he didn’t much use this theme in 1980, curiously enough).? Paul Krugman thinks it was a “minor” case of welfare fraud, while between the foam flecks of Chris Matthews you can make out that Reagan was a raaaccist ? for mentioning the subject. So kudos to John Levin and Slate for setting the record straight .? Reagan’s “welfare queen” was a real person, and her name was Linda Taylor. Though Reagan was known to stretch the truth, he did …

GLAAD Urges CBS to Put More T on TV

Here’s hoping CNN isn’t too possessive in its special relationship with GLAAD, because there may be another network in GLAAD’s life. According to LifeSiteNews, GLAAD’s transgender activists hobnobbed with…

Cocky Clift: Wendy Davis’s Pro-Abortion Filibuster Will Turn Texas ‘Baby Blue’

Eleanor Clift let the liberal media hype surrounding Wendy Davis go to her head as she boldly predicted the Texas Democratic State Senator's filibuster on abortion would “turn the state baby blue.” The long time Newsweek editor and Daily Beast contributor made the electoral forecast during the “predictions” segment of the syndicated McLaughlin Group over the weekend. For the record Texas hasn't voted for a Democratic presidential candidate since 1976. (video after the jump) read more

Mike Allen’s ‘Politico Playbook’—’Presented’ By Gabby Giffords’ Gun-Control Group

News organizations gotta pay the bills. Nothing's more normal than a newspaper, magazine or website —NewsBusters included—selling advertising, including ads by political or issue-advocacy groups. But somehow it felt different to have opened my morning email from Mike Allen's “Politico Playbook” and find this message [screencap after jump] at the very top: “POLITICO Playbook, presented by the Rights and Responsibilities Tour by Gabby Giffords and Mark Kelly.” Allen's column often features ads from issue-advocacy groups, ranging across the issue spectrum. But to so identify the column with sponsorship by one side of a controversial political issue would seem to raise serious journalistic issues. More after the jump. read more
