Just checking in quickly to wish all readers and commenters a very happy new year and to remind everyone – as if any of us needed the reminder – that we’ve got a lot of work to do next year in continuing to expose the incompetency and the extreme left wing tendencies of the Obama administration. The way the polling is going at both the state and national levels, Republicans will have some prime time opportunities to make up for some significant ground they’ve lost over the last two major election cycles. My concern is that if they make it up, will they just go back to the way they were under the Bush admin, where many Republicans in both the House and Senate helped themselves to a lot of pork and other wasteful spending that was completely anti-fiscal responsibility. In any event, if that happens, we’ll just have to work hard then, too. Because this country is worth it, after all.
This little nugget from Science Daily : Most of the carbon dioxide emitted by human activity does not remain in the atmosphere, but is instead absorbed by the oceans and terrestrial ecosystems. In fact, only about 45 percent of emitted carbon dioxide stays in the atmosphere. Hmmm … now if this is true (notice how, unlike alarmists, I still skeptically caveat my acceptance of this research until I see verification) it would put a very large dent in the argument for the draconian measures the warmists are attempting to write into law in various countries around the world, wouldn’t it? Or at least it should. So why do I have this feeling that if true it will be mostly ignored. Experience I guess. The research was done by Wolfgang Knorr of the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Bristol. [Knorr] reanalyzed available atmospheric carbon dioxide and emissions data since 1850 and considers the uncertainties in the data

Palin, Beck Vault Into Gallup’s Top 10 Most Admired
D.C. Federal District Court Judge Ricardo Urbina has just dismissed all charges against several Blackwater guards, who were accused of voluntary manslaughter and various serious firearms offenses in connection with a September 16, 2007, shooting in Baghdad. A copy of the opinion, which can be found here, chastises the government for improper conduct: In their zeal to bring charges against the defendant in this case, the prosecutors and investigators aggressively sought out statements the defendants had been compelled to make to government investigators in the immediate aftermath of the shooting and in the subsequent investigation. In so doing, the government’s trial team repeatedly disregarded the warnings of experienced, senior prosecutors, assigned to the case specifically to advise the trial team on Garrity and Kastigar issues, that this course of action threatened the viability of the prosecution

From Fox News’ Nine Big Stories the Mainstream Media Missed in 2009 : ACORN Tapes Filmmakers James O’Keefe and Hannah Giles, posing as a pimp and a prostitute, went undercover to the offices of the community organizing group ACORN in the summer. They secretly videotaped employees instructing them in how to falsify tax forms and seek illegal benefits for 13 “very young” girls from El Salvador whom the pair said they wanted to import to work as child prostitutes. New videos emerged daily, but the mainstream media ignored the growing scandal for days, even as federal agencies began severing their ties with the group and members of Congress cried for an investigation
